Despite efforts by the Indian National Congress (INC) leadership to maintain a cautious stance towards Pakistan, the social media accounts of Vikar Rasool Wani, a senior Congress leader and President of the Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), shows an apparent ‘romanticism’ with Pakistan.
Wani’s social media activity seems to exhibit a marked preference for Pakistan-based channels and pages while seemingly neglecting to follow party leader Rahul Gandhi.
Talking to The Typewriter, a senior politician, wishing anonymity shared that social media handles of Mr Wani have apparently displayed a marked preference for Pakistan-based channels and pages while seemingly hesitating to follow party leader, Rahul Gandhi.
“This is shocking to note that a politician on such a prime position within the party is more inclined towards Pakistan based channels and pages, whereas he is yet to follow Rahul Gandhi on Twitter,” said senior politician, adding that such an approach shows this leader is more ‘interested’ in Pakistan based activities and not of his own leadership.
He stated that earlier as well his name was involved in some ‘Notoriety’, but party high command chose to make him president.
“There are number of complaints pending with the high command against Mr Vikar, but still party is not taking any cognizance of the matter, thus brining discomfiture for the party leadership,” he said and added that in the present case, the party high command should immediately initiate an internal enquiry against Mr Rasool for preferring Pakistan based pages.
He stated that Mr Rasool should be asked why he is more interested in Pakistan affairs, but keeps himself away from official accounts of other senior Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi.
Sharing details about his social media presence, a senior political leader said that his account still follows pages like ‘True Pakistan’ and ‘Daily Pakistan’.
“I cannot comment about why he follows Pakistan based channels and pages, but I am more worried about why he does not follow own leadership,” said the senior leader.
Talking to The Typewriter, Vikar Rasool Wani said that multiple accounts are being operated under his name by the party and he is not sure which account is following Pakistan channels.
When asked why did not he follow Rahul Gandhi, he said “Lets see”.
