After a lull of almost three decades, hardcore separatist group in Kashmir is likely to re-enter into mainstream politics and a new party in this regard is all set to be launched in Jammu soon, sources informed.
Highly placed sources maintained that members from the group of hardcore separatist group are preparing to re-enter into mainstream politics.
“Irrespective of their earlier stand, members of the group, probably in consultation with New Delhi, have decided to re-enter into mainstream politics of Jammu and Kashmir,” said sources, adding that the decision was taken at the headquarters of the organization in Srinagar.
Sources maintained that a new party under the name and title of Jammu and Kashmir United Front shall be soon launched in Jammu.
“A new party, comprising of hardcore separatist leaders are likely to be launched in Jammu,” said sources, adding that as of now star would be the party symbol.
The party leadership is also mulling to introduce some Sikh faces on top posts, including the post of Vice President.
“Top leadership, which acted as a strong hardcore separatist group in Kashmir Valley, shall be part of the party,” said sources, adding that some of the names had been close to late Syed Ali Shah Geelani.
If sources are to be believed, the members of separatist group were in constant touch with New Delhi.
“They have no other option, but to follow the instructions from New Delhi,” said sources, adding that after abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, separatist forces have lost their existence in Kashmir valley.
Sources said that the separatists had no plans. They were just acting at the behest of Pakistan and made all efforts to paint it as an indigenous movement.
“True, as it is, that there were internal reasons that had taken them far from Delhi that had not allowed genuine democracy to flourish in Kashmir. Kashmiris’ fault was that they hailed those who picked up guns as holy warriors without realising the long-term consequences of their words and actions,” said sources.
It is pertinent to mention here that Syed Ali Shah Geelani was the hardcore separatist leader who started his political career as a stakeholder in electoral politics — he was thrice MLA in the J&K Assembly. His disillusionment with electoral democracy after the rigged 1987 elections was the moral weapon that he, very effectively, used against the political mainstream.
